Why and when did you decide to become a hockey player?
When I was six years old, I wanted to become a football player. But my parents preferred hockey. So they let me try hockey training a few times. I liked it so much that I never switched to football.

Which qualities make you a good player?
I think high running power and being physically and defensively strong. I also can keep a good overview.

What is your favorite exercise during your training?
Small games.

What is your favorite hockey stick and why?
Reece RX 130. It has a good balance between stiffness for good passing and the right curvature and flexibility.

From which hockey player did you learn the most?
Jamie Dwyer.

Do you have any rituals before an important game and if so, what are they?
Drinking enough water. Stretching and and warming up. One hour before the game I drink a sports drinks. Then I play around with the ball for a while.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Besides hockey, I like spending time with friends and my girlfriend. I like to have lunch or a drink in Amsterdam, i am also I’m doing a startup in Ehealth.

What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?
The final of the European Championships in Amsterdam (2017): at the halfway point the score was 0-2 to Belgium. There were 10.000 people in the stadium. After the break we beat them 4-2. It was unforgettable.

Do you have any ideas about your life after hockey?
I will focus on the startup in Ehealth. Together with two others, we will focus on psychical and mental health and nutrition.

Which hockey player do you admire and why is that?
Mirco Pruijser. He started relatively late at the Dutch team. Fantastic development. Super striker, but he remains modest.

What would be your best advice for young hockey players?
If you really want it, you'll have to give up other things but know it will pay back three times over. Perseverance and pleasure will bring you far.
