Date of birth: 02-09-1995
Goalkeeper
Hockeyclub: HC Den Bosch Dames 1 / Dutch National Team

Why and when did you decide to become a hockey player?
In my family almost everyone plays hockey. So it was obvious that I would play. As a little girl I spent a lot of time at the hockey club and wanted nothing more than to be on the field. When I was 6, I could ‘finally’ start.

Which qualities make you a good player?
I keep calm and use basic techniques. I always focus on the stoppable balls. If can do that, that plays a big part. Often you will turn more of the hard balls. During a match, I am mainly putting my defense in place. I always try to keep them sharp, but I'm also keeping myself strong.

What is your favorite exercise during your training?
I always like small games. But as a goalkeeper, it is always fun if there is an exercise that takes a lot of shots on goal.

What is your favorite hockey stick and why?
I'm still studying Law, so in my spare time you can find me with m,y head in  a book. Also I like to drink coffee with friends or family. In the evening I like to sit on the couch watching series or movie. Preferably an exciting movie or horror movie.

From which hockey player did you learn the most?
Martijn Drijver. He is my goalkeeper trainer at Den Bosch and taught me to keep my calm and trust in my technique. He also taught me handle bad training sessions better.

Do you have any rituals before an important game and if so, what are they?
I always sit in the same spot in the dressing room. At Den Bosch we do a “Rondo” first and I do my warming up with our assistant Bas van Zundert. During the warm up, the sequence is always the same, finishing on goal and penalty corners. During the lineup, I always have the same position. Before everyone takes position I give a stick tick to almost everyone. After the last high five with Ireen van de Assem I am ready for the match.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Besides hockey, I like spending time with friends and my girlfriend. I like to have lunch or a drink in Amsterdam, i am also I’m doing a startup in Ehealth.

What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?
The most beautiful moment in my hockey career was last year when we won shootouts in the ECHC. With this we took the double (national champion and European champion). So cool to win on shootouts. And of course the European title in 2017!

What is your most important goal at this moment?
The next step I would like to take in my career is to become a solid force at the Dutch team. I would love to go to more big tournaments and play important matches there.

Do you have any ideas about your life after hockey?
Because I study law I would like to be a lawyer. I think it's important to have another career in addition to hockey. Ultimately, hockey does not last forever and I need something to fall back on.

Which hockey player do you admire and why is that?
Maybe strange to say, but my former team mate Maartje Paumen. So much experience and a true leader.

Can you compose your dream team for us?
Den Bosch ladies 1.

What would be your best advice for young hockey players?

Try everything. Try each position and find out what you like best and what you are good at.
